- Who is Forever Flowering?
Forever Flowering is a small business that creates modern, artificial ‘Real Touch’ Flower Arrangements that look and feel real, set in an artificial water and vase. Each flower arrangement then get packaged and shipped off all over Australia to people’s homes and places of work.
- What made you start a business based around flowers?
I used spend a small fortune on fresh flowers for my home. I absolutely love the way flowers can brighten up any room and any mood. I would buy a fresh bunch every one to two weeks, some would barely last that long without wilting.
Between my little girl pulling the petals off, the water spilling everywhere and my partner constantly sneezing every time he was near the flowers – I was about to give up on flowers and just buy them on “special occasions”. Plus I wasn’t a fan of cheaper silk flowers.
Until I discovered Real Touch Artificial Flowers. Real Touch flowers are made from latex, and look and feel just like fresh flowers. I was in awe of how beautiful and delicate they looked… and they would last forever!
Most importantly, they are non-toxic – so safe around my little girl Sienna (she is two) and are allergy-free so no more itchy eyes and noses. My friends and family would come over and compliment me on my new flowers. When I told them they were artificial, they asked me to get them some too.
And that’s how I started Forever Flowering!
- What’s your favourite flower?
I definitely go through phases but at the moment it would have to be peonies. I also love the fact that I can make them all year round for people when the real thing is only in season 4-6 weeks of the year!
- What’s the best things about having your own business?
Best perk about having my own business is having the freedom to take my daughter Sienna to swimming and dancing classes. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful team working for me now so it allows me to be more flexible with my time here and there to have special time with Sienna in these precious early years. I also love the flexibility of having my own studio which I have made my own special creative space.
I also absolutely love seeing my arrangements in peoples homes from the photos that they send. Makes my day every time I receive one!
- What’s the worst?
The hardest part is the long hours involved, working through the day, then cooking dinner then going back to work until the early morning. Only the other day I did a 16 hour shift just to get the orders through! But I must admit, I also l love the excitement of it all. I wouldn’t change a thing although (except I wouldn’t mind getting holiday pay)!
- Who do you go to for advice?
Everyone! I speak to my partner Ben, family, friends, people at the checkout in the supermarket! I like to take a little bit of advice from everyone then make it my own, it helps with the creative process and understanding what people are looking for.
- What’s your best tip for women thinking of starting a business?
It won’t be easy but it will be worth it in the end. If you do what you love, the rest will take care of itself. I live and breathe Forever Flowering. My brain works on problems while i am sleeping. You have to be obsessed with your business for it to really succeed.
- Who should everyone be following on Instagram right now?
@myflowerdiary is very on trend with fresh flowers but this gives me inspiration to apply to my creations. But my guilty pleasure is @rozalia_russian for everything style, beauty and fashion related. She is a mum of two with her own fashion line, so inspiring!
- What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
Running has changed my life. I got into it after my daughter Sienna was born as a way to lose my “baby weight” but it’s become a great stress relief for me. When the business is flat out the one thing that clears my head is going for a run.
- If you could send flowers to anyone in the world who would it be?
Mark Zuckerberg. I first built my business on Facebook, advertising locally on buy swap sell pages, and from there watched it grow. I would never have been able to network the way that i have been without the power of social media.
- Flowers are quite girly…are you a girly girl?
I wouldn’t consider myself to be a girl girl, although I do love pretty things. Creating arrangements are more of a creative outlet for me. However, since having a baby girl the house has become filled with glitter and pink!
- What are your plans for the rest of 2017?
In the last year the amount of flowers that are getting shipped has quadrupled. I would love to see that growth repeat itself and for Forever Flowering to become a recognized independent home-wares brand. I love that a little piece of me is living in customers homes all around Australia.
